FAQ

How is my meter read, and when?

Meters are read the 3rd week of the month. A reading is transmitted by a radio device from the meter to a computer in the meter reader’s truck, so you will usually not see him out physically reading the meter. These readings are imported into the billing software to calculate your bill.

When should I receive my bill and when is it due?

Bills are mailed out on the last business day of the month. They are due by 5:00 p.m. on the 16th of each month. In the event this falls on a weekend or holiday, they are due the next business day. There is a drop box outside the door for payments between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. We gather all contents of the box at 5:00 p.m. The following business day, all payments made after 5:00 p.m. (online payments are time stamped) receive a 10% late fee on the current billing amount and a disconnect notice is mailed with a final due date 10 days from the mailing date. Failure to receive your bill or disconnect notice does not void any fees or charges. You may call the office or check under “Bill Payment” here on the web page as soon as charges are billed the last week of the month to find out your bill amount. Accounts with outstanding balances after the final due date are subject to meters being locked for non-payment. A subsequent statement with a different due date does not extend the date due for previous balances. Any statement with a previous balance is automatically subject to being locked for non-payment. If your meter is locked, the account balance and a $75 fee must be paid before service is restored.

What is the source of my water?

We purchase our water from the city of Mount Pleasant. They pump their water from Lake Bob Sandlin.

Why has my meter been locked if it is not yet the date shown on my bill as the due date?

If you have a balance on your account from a previous bill, the due date on your new bill does NOT extend the due date for previous balances. On those amounts, you had an original bill with a due date, and you received a late notice with a final due date. If that payment is not received, your meter will be locked for non-payment even if your new bill shows a future due date.

I made my payment online through my bank. Why haven’t you received it?

We are not set up for electronic bank transfers. When you pay online through your bank, they will have to print a check and mail it to us. Many of the banks use a service to do this for them, so it may take up to 10 days for the check to be received in our office. It will show on your bank account that the funds have been removed from your account the day they process the check, but it still has to be mailed to us.

Can I use my meter to supply water to a guest house or RV?

State law regulates one meter per household. Per our service agreement, a meter is to provide water to only one residence or business. You cannot extend that service to another structure equipped with a kitchen, which would be considered as a residence. This would include a guest house, RV or camper.
